Protect your files and database before updates or migrations.

Step by step

1. Create a copy of website files and export its database before upgrades or major changes.
2. Store a copy outside the hosting account, with access limited to trusted people.
3. Include application configuration securely, but do not put backup archives in a public website directory.
4. Check that the archive opens and periodically test a restoration in a separate environment.
5. Ask support what backup and restore options are included in your plan. Do not assume that a provider backup is available unless confirmed.
